How to import redirects into Shopify?

As Shopify is a SaaS tool, you by definition have no access to the backend source code (only to that of the theme), let alone to the server configuration files (.htaccess or vhost). To handle redirects, whether throughout the life of the site or during a migration from another CMS such as a migration from PrestaShop to Shopify for example, you will therefore have to follow the steps below.

How to access the redirect management screen in Shopify

To access the redirect management screen in Shopify, follow this path:

  1. Click on Online Store (under sales channels) in the left-hand menu
  2. Click on navigation
  3. Click on "view URL redirects" in the top right-hand menu

Example of imported redirects

Once in the management screen, you will have two options: either set up redirects manually with the "Create URL redirect" button, or import a batch of URLs directly. This second option is the most practical when working with Swan, the automated SEO redirect tool.

To be valid, the import file must be in comma-separated CSV format and follow this column header scheme:

Redirect from,Redirect to
/example_product.php,/products/example-product The file to import is built from the migration's redirect plan.
